the mother. I thought she was selfish. She gave all her time and emotion to Kate. Not because she felt Kate needed more time and love, but because I think she felt guilty her daughter was sick.

I really don't like the mom. She may love Jesse and Anna, but she doesn't show it very often. She didn't even go down to visit Anna after she gave her bone marrow.
yeah. the mom was not very motherly.
I agree. The mother's character was not portrayed as a loving mother. But if you looked behind the emotions, you would see that she is struggling to keep her family together. She has one daughter who needs time and attention and she sacrifices her time spent with her other children. But what if she did not sacrifice this time? Possibly Kate would not have the best medical attention. The mother might not have found the best doctors.
