The books were a way to escape life as she knew it. She also felt the power of books and words which was displayed when the Nazis wanted to burn books and when everyone wanted her to continue to read during the bombing.
It meant everything to her!
She was able to escape the life she was living when she read and wrote books.
They were an escape.
